Episode 13 kicks into gear with the guys sharing a bit about their families’ experiences from the Christmas holiday. Talk of Nerf Wars take center stage.  

Dr. Nick takes over the blog this week, reading and leading a discussion of “The Blue Suit.” The guys talk about the value in thinking outside of the box in their respective fields. Rick suggests that there is value in spontaneity for the experienced counselor and the potential to experience “flow.”

In the “Building the Brochure” segment, Dr. Nick and Dr. Rick continue their investigation of Edutopia’s 10 most significant studies in the field of education from 2022. The article under consideration this week provides strong support for an “inclusion” approach to special education. Dr. Nick has a wealth of experiences as a Special Education Teacher and Administrator to share with Rick and program listeners. Special Education teachers, Administrators, Classroom Teachers, and School Counselors will want to hear some fantastic suggestions for making the challenges attainable, if not enjoyable for everyone involved.

The Every Rose has Its Thorn segment focuses on the pluses and minuses of snowy weather. Nick isn’t a fan of winter weather in general, though both guys agree on sled riding and school day’s off snow days as positives. Nick also talks about the excitement of watching his southern-bred rescue dogs experience snow for the first time.    

The last segment finds the guys digging back into the mailbag to respond to more fan questions. Nick and Rick respond to a question from Brian in Georgia who tasks them with talking about their favorite teachers. Nick talks about the amazing impact that his fourth grade teacher Mrs. McCreary had on him, while Rick shares his appreciation of his professor and mentor Dr. Richard Hazler.
